The 2009 Chapelwood Kenya Mission Team will embark on our journey to Kenya in September. This year’s team consists of Bob, Carleen, Dave, Dixie, Early, Janet, Jennifer, Gianna, Melissa, Noel, Stuart, Tammie, Tammy and Vicki. Here's our plan:
Friday - The adventure begins. Depart for London.
Saturday - Arrive in London, Depart for and arrive in Nairobi.
Sunday - Worship at Kawangware UMC in Nairobi, then travel to Maua.
Monday to Friday - Work, worship and fellowship in Maua. Our primary work projects are constructing housing for the hospital staff at the Maua Methodist Hospital as well as for AIDS orphans. Saturday - Our last day of work in Maua, then depart for Chuka.
Sunday - Worship and Vacation Bible School in Chuka. Think Lion King...It's the Circle of Life and it moves us all, through despair and hope, through faith and love, 'till we find our place on the path unwinding, in the Circle, The Circle of Life...(I don't know about you, but I have goose bumps right now).
Monday and Tuesday - Work, worship and fellowship in Chuka. Our primary work project here is plastering the walls of the local church.
Wednesday to Thursday - Safari in Masai Mara along the banks of the Talek River. We're sleeping in tents. Help me Jesus. Please pray.
Friday - Our last morning safari, then depart for Nairobi.
Saturday - Return to Houston via London. Home sweet home and hot showers at last!
So, that's our plan. However, this is a mission trip in Kenya. "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10. We'll follow His plan for the works he has prepared for us once we get there. Time, technology and power permitting, I'll update this blog throughout the trip. Meanwhile, please pray for our mission team, our families at home and our brothers and sisters in Kenya.
